The decline in population was devastating as approximately 25 million people perished in Europe during the Black Death. Earlier outbreaks of the plague in Hubei and China was said to have killed 5 million people or 90% of the population. Later outbreaks in China killed 2/3 of Chinese and in the Middle East 1/3 of the population died.
