Before the plague craftsmen and trades such as bakers, blacksmiths and stonemasons only entered their trade because of family connection. When Black Death stuck craftsmen branched outside the family businesses to work, which resulted in growth of their wealth and status. As their earnings increased, peasants climbed the ladder in the feudal system from middle class to upper class.
